You know when someone is trying to explain something to you, and you don’t really get what they mean until it finally sinks in, and it “clicks”? This is especially true if you’re not in the mood to listen, or if you’re not motivated by the subject matter, or you don’t think that person knows what they’re talking about.
So, I could sit here all day explaining how to be a happier person, listing steps, providing different ways to think about things, explaining some concepts, etc, etc. But what difference would it make? If you could readily understand what I’m talking about, you’d already be well on your way to understanding happiness, you’d already have interest and motivation, and you’d believe that I have experience with this topic.
So, that’s why my primary audience is me. I’m in the mood to listen, I’m motivated by what I write, and I believe I know what I’m talking about. I’m unsure whether anyone can benefit from my specific individual thoughts — but I do believe there’s a benefit to reading this material and absorbing the overall message. The message being: that it’s possible to become satisfied with life and living can be enjoyable.
So I relay my thoughts, often repeating the subject matter, using different phrasing and points of view. I suppose it’s a beacon for others that can’t find their way: “To those in distress, my name is Rich, I was lost in misery for a very long time and found a way out. My method of departure was through the refinement of my thoughts and attitude. Know that this path exists, that I am an example, and that it is a pleasant journey to embark on. Over.”
